The Gold Coast - Coolangatta

The first stop on our drive down the coast was Coolangatta in the Gold Coast. It was only a 3hour drive from Noosa but we still seemed to take forever to get there - frequent stopping for Tilman and exchanging our rental car for a slightly bigger one really slowed us down.

We wanted to stay in Byron Bay (a little further south) but couldn't find a nice place to stay there.  We had heard a lot about the gold coast so we were excited to finally arrive.  It reminded me a lot of Miami with the high rises right on the water.

We had a nice view from our hotel room balcony

Coolangatta was a nice town

The beach was the widest we had ever seen.  It was a bit ridiculous. You can't really tell here but I think it took us at least 10 minutes to walk across the sand to get to the water!

The waves were a good size.  You can see a bunch of kids having a surf lesson below

very clear water here, just like in Noosa

Searching for some shells

The area was beautiful with the black rocks at the one end

We spent the afternoon at the beach and then found an awesome Thai restaurant for dinner.  It was a great stop except for Tilman being a little sick.  We never did pin down what was wrong with him as he was pukey for the first few days of our travels.  We stopped his solids, just nursed him & then he was all better by the time we made it to Sydney.  Not sure if it was a bit of motion sickness, overheating or a bit of bug.
