Point perpendicular

While hanging out in Jervis Bay, you can see the 2 land masses on either side of the Bay.  At one end, there is a famous lighthouse and National park area.  We drove up to the point (only about a 45 min drive) to check out the little town & sights in the area.  A large area on the peninsula is owned by the Australian military & is not accessible.  The town was extremely small & we only had 2 options for lunch - fish & chips it was yet again (and a mushy veggie burger for J).

 It was looking like it might rain so we headed out for our drive to the point

Multiple colored tree trunks everywhere.  We of cousre saw Kangaroos too but didn't get any pictures of them this time.

We were pretty disappointed that the lighthouse was closed as it is being restored. The road to get there was an adventure & we were happy to make it out of there without getting a flat tire or stuck!

Well we are now back home to reality.  We survived the marathon flights home with no problems at all.  Both kids as it turns out, are great travellers!  There were 7 infants on our flight from Sydney to Vancouver & I think Tilman was the only one that barely said a peep the whole flight.  None of us got much sleep mind you so we are dealing with some nasty jet lag/time change issues but I think that is to be expected.
We are going to continue for a few more posts as we had some pretty awesome experiences during our last 2 weeks down south & in Sydney too.

Special thanks to those that helped us out during our adventure - the Korol's & Lemery's (and Gord/Linda Thompson too).  We cannot thank you enough for taking such amazing care of precious Zoey, taking care of our house and snow shovelling and even driving us to/from the airport!  It so nice to know that we have some family that are there for us & we can count on!

Back to our trip.  We had heard about a very Australian experience just south of us where a mob of kangaroos often frequent a local beach (a 'mob' is what they call a group of kangaroos!).  It was pretty close to us & it was suppose to be an overcast day so we decided to check it out.  It was called Pebbly Beach.

After we explored the water, we found these guys on the hill overlooking the ocean



They let Thom & Tilman get pretty close

The drive was unbelievably beautiful.  The whole area was so nice

We decided to do some more exploring in the area.  We ran into SO many Kangaroos!

This one looked like an albino - again they were so tame, they let us get so close.

The Kangaroos were literally everywhere the last 2 weeks of our trip.  We saw Kangaroos every single day - it was awesome!!

Jervis Bay

For the last 2 weeks of our vacation we have been 3 hrs south of Sydney in an area called Jervis Bay.  We were looking for a different experience than Noosa and we sure got it down here.  We are in a tiny little town called Vincentia with one gas station & one grocery store.  There are a few other towns around us within a few Kms so we are not too remote.

 The main place we have been hanging out is an amazing beach called Hyam's Beach.  We are told it is in the Guiness book of world records for having the whitest sand in the world.

Thankfully the weather has sorted itself out & we have been able to enjoy our new surroundings!

The sand lives up to its reputation.  It looks like snow sometimes and it's blinding without your shades on

The water is stunning here too - so clear and only small waves (no surfers here)

There are some rocks at one far end of the beach which are fun to explore, looking for fish, shells etc

 

Tilman has been loving the sand here too, playing in it since day 1 but wasn't interested in it when we were up north. 



 The sand feels like cornstarch & when you walk on it, it makes a squeeking sound (the sound has actually been the case for all of Australia - so strange the first time you step out in it!)

 



With the calm waves here, Tilman has also been interested in the water.  We make a little 'pool' in the sand at the edge of the waves - they both love it!



 

 

The seagulls have provided a lot of entertainment to both kids.  Kalyssa loves to chase them & Tilman loves to watch them.
